Amsterdam is located at 38°21?2?N 94°35?15?W? / ?38.35056°N 94.5875°W? / 38.35056; -94.5875 (38.350484, -94.587497). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 281 people, 102 households, and 69 families residing in the city. The population density was 480.9 people per square mile (187.1/km²). There were 109 housing units at an average density of 186.6/sq mi (72.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.22% White, 0.71% Native American, and 1.07% from two or more races.
