Aurora is located at 35°18?5?N 76°47?22?W? / ?35.30139°N 76.78944°W? / 35.30139; -76.78944 (35.301476, -76.789461). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.7 kmē), of which, 0.9 square miles (2.5 kmē) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 kmē) of it (8.65%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 583 people, 265 households, and 169 families residing in the town. The population density was 615.8 people per square mile (236.9/kmē). There were 316 housing units at an average density of 333.8/sq mi (128.4/kmē). The racial makeup of the town was 51.29% White, 47.51% African American, 0.34% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population.
